Insurance where it counts: new solutions to new risks

Insurtech companies are emerging at the rate of over one a day and we are all self-publishing now. Twitter and Linkedin pump out real-time updates. Every day brings more opinions and an inbox full of insurtech news. So much choice, and too little time. How do we filter out the useful and important from the irrelevant and distracting?

Happy New Year. And thank you! It is you, our members, that make Instech London so successful – and fun. Through your support, whether as speaker, sponsor, social media activist or just turning up at events, we’ve been able to create a highly connected community, that really is making a difference to people’s business lives. We have listened to what you said in 2017 and have great plans for 2018…

2017: What an incredible year!

#Engagement – In 2017 we hosted 11 evening events presenting 78 different companies – from one person “ideas” via scale-ups to multi-billion incumbents who are reinventing themselves. Write-ups here.

#Members – There are now 2,300 of you! Representing 700 different companies.

#Videos – Our professionally produced videos of dozens of speakers have proved a big hit. Subscribe here.

#Influence – We’re right at the heart of the UK’s insurtech discussion and have hosted, supported and attended meetings with and events for HM Treasury, London Market TOM, the CII, BEIS (the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy), TechCity UK, the FCA and the Corporation of London

#Successes – We’re delighted with the stories from 2017 of start-ups who have found investors, partners and staff as a result of InsTech London events and newsletters. Videos and vignettes to follow in the months to come.

And there’s no let up for 2018

#Events – We’ll be repeating the three formats that worked well in 2017:Monday evenings in the Steelyard, Show and Tell at WeWorks, and our social events. We will also be expanding into new areas through collaboration with other leading organisations such as UK Israel, the Royal Geographical Society and BIBA, as well as continuing to work closely with Lloyd’s and the London Market TOM.

#Corporate Members – During 2018 we’ll have the support of a growing number of corporate members including many of the leading providers of insurance, broking, services and technology in EC3 such as MS Amlin, Tokio Marine Kiln, Charles Taylor, AJ Gallagher, Chubb, Miller, KPMG, Atrium, Price Forbes, Talbot, Passle, RMS, Oxbow Partners, XL Catlin and Munich Re.

#Start-up Members – We’re also delighted that we’re receiving support from two of the most successful UK InsurTech companies (both of which have presented at our events in the past). Thank you Cytora and Trov.

If you’re interested in becoming a Corporate or Start-up Member please contact Matthew or Robin

#Podcasts – These will ramp up over 2018; an interview with TigerRisk Partners coming shortly. Listen to previous episodes and subscribe here (iTunes) or here(everyone else).

#Supporting start-ups – At the heart of our community are the entrepreneurs and start-ups who are moving beyond words and genuinely trying to change insurance. This is far from easy and one of the core goals of Instech London is to help where we can. We’re always keen to hear from new companies or people that would like to present on stage, do a podcast or get mentioned in our newsletter.

As previously announced, we will be introducing a small membership fee in 2018. We’ve spoken to many of you about this and have heard you believe its fair and offers very good value. Many of you will benefit from your companies taking up corporate membership, and there will be no charge for pre-funding start-ups. We look forward to the community continuing to grow for the benefit of all and are confident this change will not put off any true insurtech enthusiasts.
